Kimberly Jordan

Kimberly Jordan is a self-taught ceramicist. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she spent summers as a young girl on her grandparent's farm in Virginia. It was here where Kimberly was first introduced to clay - no toys were needed. The forest was her playground and the beet red Virginia dirt - her art. Envision a girl transforming clay into anything imaginable and waiting for the sun to take hold of each piece - fracturing new creations into mosaics

At the age of nine years, she entered a gifted arts program at Carnegie-Mellon University and spent four years cultivating her artistic talents and developing perspective, proving to be a catalyst for her successful career. Later, she attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and attained a degree in Visual Communications.
Kimberly’s work has become a brilliant collection of paintings, photography, and mosaic sculptures. She reveals her passionate spirit and admiration for the beauty and humor in life. In her paintings, radiant color stains emphasize her figures’ most admired features, such as elongated necks, chiseled attributes and voluptuous curves. She expresses the power of sexuality through revealing poses and symbolic icons.
Kimberly acquired and cultivated her ceramic skills from a group of distinguished ceramic artists in Venice who taught her the intricate skills of throwing, glazing, and firing. Her hand-carved mosaic sculptures start by the carving of wet clay, then the glazing and firing of each piece which results in a collection of brilliantly colored tiles. Tiles are then pieced together (some purposely broken) to create a vibrant montage.
After returning from her travels in Europe, influenced most by the city of Barcelona and experiencing first hand the mosaic monuments from artists like Antonio Gaudi, paintings from Picasso, Miro, and Dali, one becomes one with the city that housed and fed some of the greatest artist in the world. She’s back now with a rejuvenated sense of herself and the world around her which is reflected in her recent work.

Kimberly is now a professional artist full-time. She lives in Angelino Heights, a historic area in Los Angeles, CA.

Kimberly Jordan's Collection 2004

Kimberly Jordan's paintings and hand carved mosaic art had an early development in the halls of Carnegie Melon. Her original creative expressions reflect these experiences into work that captures an essence of natural life as well as the masks of human construction. Kimberly's work also shows the beauty of less celebrated aspects of life.

As a child, the artist was selected to study at Carnegie Melon University's School of fine Arts and later attended West Virginia University and the Art institute of Pittsburgh, where she received a degree in visual communications। In early 1985 she moved to Los Angeles and immediately began work as a designer. In 1994 the artist left the traditional work force to challenge her own artistic abilities.

Kimberly ventures to gain her artistic expressions through her love of travel। Figures, faces and places are her inspiration। She has recently returned to Los Angeles from New York, London, Barcelona, Madrid, and Majorca after years of intense design work and installations both residentially and commercially.
